I spent a whole Sunday unclogging my sewer.

After the first round of painting, I was cleaning my tools in the sink when water began backing up into the bathtub and toilet. Uh oh!

What was going to be a day of painting turned into a day of snaking. No bueno!

My dad helpfully showed me how to open the clean out, but when he went to wrench the nut on the clean out, it broke off causing a huge fountain of backed up water! The plus side was that since no one is living in the house, the water in question was just soapy water *whew*.

This job is really not fun, but again it could have been a lot… sh*ttier. After a couple hours… yes a couple hours of snaking, I finally arrived at the root at the problem.

Roots.

Roots.

While my dad and I were able to get the drain flowing pretty well, there was still some pretty gnarly build-up near the clean out. That is going to have to wait a few days before I can deal with it. I needed to get the snake back to the rental place and track down a new cover for my clean out. Of course, my 40’s house would have a 3.5 inch brass cover, which isn’t a common size anymore. After visiting a couple stores, I was able to find this cap, and at least close off the clean out.

Ok, now that that issue is stabilized – back to painting!
